Mission / Vision / Values

Grassroots Westmoreland is a grassroots coalition of Westmoreland County residents working from the ground up for dignity, democracy, mutual support, and community care.

We believe neighbors can build something stronger together through nonviolent community-led action, practical support, civic participation, and respect for one another.

In solidarity… from the Ground UP.

Full Coalition Statement

We are a grassroots coalition of Westmoreland County residents, united by our unwavering commitment to democracy, the U.S. Constitution, and the fundamental values of peace, kindness, and respect for one another, for our communities, and for the planet we share.

We believe in the strength of nonviolent, community-led resistance as a powerful force to challenge injustice and defend the rights and dignity of all people.

Our power lies in our unity, our voice, and our collective refusal to accept systems of harm and exclusion.

We insist upon respect for each member, regardless of race, color, religion, ancestry, sex, marital status, wealth status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, language, voting record, or party affiliation.

By coming together across backgrounds and beliefs, we can build a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future in Westmoreland County.

Through civic engagement, mutual support, nonviolent resistance, and collective action, we strive to protect democratic principles, uphold human dignity, and inspire transformative change, from the ground up.

Our values are not just words on a page.

They guide how we organize, respond, communicate, and care for one another.

Dignity

People deserve support without shame, pressure, or judgment.

Values in Practice

Mutual Support

We believe neighbors can share resources, skills, time, knowledge, and care.

Community Power

We build from the ground up through connection, cooperation, and collective action.

Access & Belonging

We work toward spaces where people are respected across race, religion, disability, language, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, income, background, and lived experience.

How We Live This Out

Grassroots Westmoreland lives these values through practical community care, civic education, mutual aid coordination, resource connection, and spaces where neighbors can take action together.

This work includes Free Westmoreland, Care-A-Van, CAN, Community Contact Points, Community Resource Gatherings, and ongoing education rooted in dignity and access.

We are not building charity from the top down.
We are building care from the ground up.
